Friday, October 16th
At 5:00 pm on Friday October 16th, Sleepy Hollow Cinema will be screening Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1949), followed by The Corpse Bride (2005).
📍 The Lyceum, 39 North Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591
THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW (34 minutes) – The Walt Disney Studios’ animated adaptation of Washington Irving’s tale — narrated and sung by Bing Crosby — remains one of the most enduring pieces of Sleepy Hollow storytelling ever made. In just 34 minutes, it captures Ichabod Crane’s arrival in the Hudson Valley, his rivalry with Brom Bones, and the fateful ride through the woods. Originally released as half of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, this short precedes select family features throughout the series. This one is home movies for us — we’re proud to open our screenings with it.
THE CORPSE BRIDE (77 minutes) – Tim Burton and Mike Johnson’s Victorian-gothic stop-motion romance follows Victor, a nervous groom-to-be who accidentally weds a mysterious dead woman while practicing his vows in the forest. Whisked into the vibrant, jazz-hued Land of the Dead, he must find a way back to the living — and to his intended bride — without breaking his accidental promise. Voice work by Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Emily Watson anchors a story that is more melancholy than macabre. Family-friendly and beautifully strange.
Saturday, October 17th
Join us at 5:00 pm for another screening of Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1949)... and stick around to watch Hotel Transylvania (2012)!
📍 The Lyceum, 39 North Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591
HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA – Genndy Tartakovsky’s animated comedy imagines a five-stakes resort where Count Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) hosts the world’s monsters — the Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Invisible Man, the Wolf Man — safely away from humans. When a wandering backpacker stumbles into the hotel just as Dracula’s daughter Mavis is turning 118, chaos and unlikely friendship follow. Bright, fast, and family-friendly. A perfect matinee pick.
Sunday October 18th
Join us again for Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on Sunday October 18th! Following that, Monster House (2006) will screen! It all kicks off at 5:00 pm!
📍 The Lyceum, 39 North Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591
MONSTER HOUSE – A criminally underrated animated horror-comedy about three kids who realize the creaky old house across the street is not just haunted — it is alive, and it is very, very hungry. Executive produced by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, and one of the great gateway horror films for younger audiences. Its trick-or-treat set piece is instantly canonical. Genuinely scary in exactly the right doses.
Sunday October 25th
We’ll be screening Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow again on Sunday October 25th, and after that, we will show Bride of Frankenstein (1935)! It all kicks off at 3:00 pm!
BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN – James Whale’s sequel to his own 1931 Frankenstein is widely considered one of the finest horror films ever made — and the rare sequel that surpasses its predecessor. Boris Karloff returns as the Monster, now speaking, seeking companionship, and haunted by cruelty; Elsa Lanchester’s brief, iconic performance as the Bride gave cinema one of its most recognizable images. Whale’s mixture of gothic dread, dark comedy, and genuine pathos is unmatched. A cornerstone of Universal Horror on the big screen where it belongs.
