Horror Has Lost Its Home, Help Us Find It with our “Home For Horror” Film Series!
We at Sleepy Hollow Cinema believe (and are sad to see) that Horror has lost its “home”: Due to streaming, and the potential isolation that comes with it, we feel a drive to build a community in our shared love of horror cinema. Sleepy Hollow Cinema aims to restore the home for horror. Through our restoration, we want to keep audience members (like you) a part of our story.
Our team has worked hard to build up our visual identity, imagery, art direction, and social media presence. You’ll find out more about why we are building this film series, below!
Event Tie-In:
Our programming strategy has included the launch of our “Halfway to Halloween” kickoff, monthly themed screenings (subgenres), and a mix of canonical classics with high audience participation. We’ve seen growth in audiences' interest in the horror genre…
Market Research:
A rapid expansion in Horror! The genre’s share of North American ticket sales jumped +17% in 2025, which was up from 11% in 2024.
The genre regularly accounts for approximately $1 billion in annual domestic ticket sales.
Horror is currently the fastest-growing genre in terms of ticket sales, outpacing other genres such as comedy and crime.
Audience Demographics;
In 2022, 66% of Gen Z reported watching a horror film in theaters, compared to only 6% of baby boomers.
The primary target demographic is 15-25, who actively seek out the thrills and “communal experience” of a theater.
The genre’s social media impact includes TikTok trends – such as the viral dance in the movie “M3GAN” – which are crucial for driving the younger demographic to theaters.
In Horror, What SPECIFICALLY Sells??
Sub Genres: Paranormal and Sci-Fi horror attract distinct, reliable audiences.
The “October” Effect: Mid-budget horror films released in October typically see the highest ROI (Return on Investment).
R-Rated Appeal: R-rated horror films gross an average of 25% more than PG-13 horror titles.
We invite readers like you to become a part of our “Home For Horror” story: Join our audience, attend horror movie events, and bring your friends! We look forward to helping horror find its home.
