Got a story that keeps people up at night? Sleepy Hollow Cinema’s First Annual FrightFest is just the film festival for you! Every great horror filmmaker started somewhere: Your “somewhere” could very well be Sleepy Hollow, the place where the genre was practically born!
Sleepy Hollow Cinema will present our First Annual Student Film Festival on Saturday October 10, 2026: We’ve received hundreds of submissions from around the country so far and can’t wait to share the work of these talented young filmmakers!
As SHC brings an art house cinema back to the most famously haunted village in America, we're throwing open our doors to the next generation of American horror talent. Tricks and treats in store: Prizes will be awarded to the best high school and college films! To note, these two groups will be judged separately; high school projects will not compete against college projects.
Guidelines for film submissions:
Participants must live in the US!
One entry per person!
Entries must have been completed when the creator was a high school!
Entries must have a total runtime of 10 minutes or less (including credits)!
Entries must fall under the horror umbrella or its sub-genres (e.g., psychological thriller, sci-fi horror, slasher, comedy-horror, monster, gothic, or experimental)!
Films in any language are welcome; however, non-English language films must include English subtitles!
Filmmakers must clear any and all applicable music, performance, and archival rights before submission (Sleepy Hollow Cinema is not liable for any copyright infringement)!
The event will be held at Sleepy Hollow High School (210 North Broadway Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591). Submissions for SHHS students are still being accepted via email until October 1 and should be sent to lita@sleepyhollowcinema.org.
